22/04/2011
Logistics practitioners from utilities companies and FMCG brands converged at Hellidon Lakes Golf Club in Northamptonshire on April 14th, 2011 for Total Logistics’ Best Practice Seminar.
Led by Total Logistics’ Les Beaumont (who sits on CILT’s Utilities Supply Chain Forum), the day included sessions from Dave Collis of UK Power Networks, Martin Ball of Twinings and Andy Keith of Total Logistics.
Les Beaumont said:
“The event was all about sharing best practice, demonstrating it in action and exploring how utility companies can take the methods from other sectors into their own. The sessions addressed key areas of interest which had been identified by a number of utility companies as areas with opportunity to improve.”
Martin Ball provided delegates with a fascinating insight into Twinings’ adoption of sales and operational planning (S&OP), emphasising process improvement and behaviour change to achieve the benefits.
Dave Collis described UK Power Networks’ journey to improve their management of cable logistics, from network strategy to implementation of an operation that is saving £1m per annum with an impressive 50% reduction in inventory.
Andy Keith’s presentation explored areas of potential collaboration within the utilities sector, through a case study involving the distribution of a number of national newspapers.
