The Future of SEO
18/09/2012
With Google’s Panda and Penguin algorithm updates, SEO has become more difficult to implement and measure the value of.
In the past many people used to include lots of links on their web pages and put in adequate content, i.e. minimal effort would mean their website would usually rank well on Google.
But since the algorithm changes it is much harder to achieve good rankings with SEO and so people now question its value and future.
Because page ranking is now the main focus of SEO, there are things to do in order to boost your websites position on the search engines.
Poor content and too many backlinks are what the Google Panda and Penguin algorithm changes were introduced to penalise.
Google wanted to eradicate the low cost/low value SEO – i.e. content farms that were dominating search results and pushing quality websites down the rankings.
So the rule of thumb is to make sure that your website still ranks highly is to always ensure you write quality content and you keep your links minimal and relevant.
As long as you invest time and effort in your SEO and keep the quality high, or get an experienced SEO agency to do it for you, then you shouldn’t be affected too much by the changes.
Google will want to continue to improve search quality for their users so these rules about maintaining quality content and links are likely to be maintained into the future.
Keeping to the basic principles of well written web pages and relevant links means you should still be where you want to be on search results in years to come.
