Parafricta is a zero-friction fabric that protects fragile skin against friction, and is therefore very useful for protecting against bedsores.
Parafricta have asked Cornish WebServices to help increase sales of this product through better advertising and visibility on the Internet.
Parafricta products can be used to prevent bed sores and other skin problems caused by friction. These products include bootees, undergarments, bed sheets and pillowcases.
Protecting Skin against damage due to Friction and Shear
The Parafricta fabric was first unveiled at the Science Museum in September 2006. In terms of materials science, the Parafricta fabric is unique in that its friction coefficient is close to the friction coefficient of ice, with static and moving friction coefficients equal, and it has the tensile strength of steel. It can be washed at very high temperatures without altering its characteristics in any way.
Parafricta material produces excellent products for medical use, and in particular to stop bed sores and other problems caused by the skin constantly rubbing. The fabric is sold as bed linen (sheets and pillowcases) and as underwear and as protective dressings.
Bed sores, also known as pressure ulcers, pressure sores or decubitus ulcers, can be a problem when patients are in bed for a long time. Bed sores are caused in roughly equal measures by pressure (when the blood supply to the skin is cut off for two or three hours) and by friction acting on the skin. Products made from the Parafricta fabric reduce the effects of friction and, therefore, helps prevent bed sores.
Parafricta is already providing help to patients in nursing homes and hospitals and many nurses and care assistants are realising the benefits of this product.
"I've been a care assistant for 17 years and never really been able to find anything that worked well when it came to preventing pressure areas on feet. Most things just fall off during the course of the night. So when my client was given the boots they were a great idea as they stay in place all night. My client was been treated by the nurse for pressure areas on feet but the dressings for comfort just keep coming off.
Since using the boots my client has no pressure areas, feet are not even red in morning. They seem to be comfortable and stay on all night. Thank you." T Chapman, Care Assistant
