Search Engine Optimisation Comparison
SEO case studies and comparisons show that:
- Cornish WebServices produce better search engine results than competitors
- Cornish WebServices SEO techniques produce far higher natural search visitors than competitor SEO companies.
The figure below shows how a website managed by Cornish WebServices performed very well, gaining more than a 10 fold increase in natural visitors. When the same website was handed over to another SEO company (one which guaranteed results) the numbers of search engine visitors actually fell.
The above data is taken from Google Analytics and shows the real values. From mid July 2008 through to early November 2008 Cornish WebServices managed the SEO, and after the initial large improvement produced a steady and almost continual increase in natural visitors. The small dip in August was a result of the summer holidays and less search volume - but search engine rankings continued to rise.
The website we were working on was very graphical and the design image was important. We were requested not to add extra text to the main pages so needed to use SEO techniques we normally reserve for websites in the most competitive industries. We agreed to the requirement of no extra text as this particular market is not very competitive, and impressive improvements were achieved despite the main pages having virtually no keyword rich text.
In November the client decided to use another company which guaranteed search engine rankings (Cornish WebServices do not) and this has proved a superb way of comparing the different search engine techniques. The second SEO company employed extensive link building techniques and added a large amount of text to the website - but despite this extra text the search engine rankings fell. This was clearly showing that these standard SEO techniques were producing a smaller gain than the loss in rankings from no longer carrying out our other search engine Optimisation tasks.
As a result Cornish WebServices have altered the SEO work we do for all clients, placing less emphasis on simply adding lots of text to the titles, description tags and elsewhere on the page, and implementing more advanced SEO techniques earlier in the process. The results over the last few months for other clients have been very encouraging.
Why the peak in visitors at the end of December? In this case there was an issue with the website over the Christmas holidays and the client asked us to restore the website from our backups, as no-one could access the revised code. Despite the Christmas holidays this gave an increased volume of search traffic for the short time our code was being used, again confirming the relative effectiveness of the two SEO techniques.
Conclusion
The standard SEO techniques of simply adding lots of text to titles, description and keyword tags plus extensive link building is not always the most effective SEO techniques.
Changing SEO company with the same website as in the above case provides a very good comparison between two different SEO techniques.
Beware of 'guaranteed' search engine results. In the example above the SEO company with 'guaranteed results' clearly produce inferior results to our more honest statement that guarantees are impossible.
